It is through the wide variety of wines and olive oils we offer at the Nostromo Restaurant in Rabac that you will discover the story about the renaissance of wine cultivation, wine and olive oil production in Istria that began in the mid-1990s.
It was at this time that the first wine roads were created in this tourism-oriented region of Croatia, followed by the renewal of abandoned olive groves and planting of new trees. The results of these investments are best described by the very high quality wines and olive oils produced, which have been recognised on an international scale. Grapevines and olive trees in Istria are part of the cultural lifestyle which we promote at various regional events.
Some of them have an international character, such as Vinistra, which includes an international Malvazija (Malmsey) competition in honour of the most important typical grape variety found in Istria. Every day Istrian winemakers can boast about their growing number of certificates of recognition and international awards as can olive oil producers, some of whom have been included in prestigious world guides such as “L'extravergine” and have been considered among the best in the world.
The Nostromo Restaurant also offers olive oils from nearby Labin, the only truly local olive oil in the area.
Olive oil can be tasted in combination with various dishes as well as with certain deserts. We heartily recommend chocolate ice cream topped with olive oil.
